Greater Accra Regional Minister Mad At MMDCEs Over Poor Performance

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, has expressed dissatisfaction over the poor performance of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Region.

In a meeting with MMDCEs in Accra on Monday, August 14, the minister highlighted some key challenges that the regional coordinators have failed to address.

He was concerned about filth, indiscipline on the roads of Greater Accra, and lawlessness in the region.

“Could this be hardworking with ‘Aboboyaa’ on the motorway?”

“Is this hardworking, with ‘trotro’ still loading in front of the Accra Mall?”

“Korle Klottey with rubbish on the Graphic road?”

“Hardworking? AMA, Kinbu, and Agbogbloshie refuse dumps everywhere. Is this what we call hardworking?” he quizzed further.

“In fact, just in front of John Mahama’s residence, someone has started selling tomatoes there, at La Dade Kotopon”.

The minister has embarked on various initiatives, including decongestion exercises, sanitation campaigns and other initiatives and wants the MMDCEs to be more proactive in changing the outlook of Accra.

The regional minister further announced that all festival paraphernalia in the region are banned to ensure cleanliness.

“And that is to say that going forward, party or festival paraphernalia in the region are banned, yes, they are banned,” he noted.

On his part, the Dean of the MMDCs, George Cyril Blay, called for collaborative efforts to ensure that developmental programmes are rollout to the letter.

“When the assembly bring out a policy, we need the MCEs for its implementation. We need the support of the citizens to help the MCEs work to keep the environment clean. We have relaxed with the operation clean your frontage policy, and we are going to strengthen it again,” Mr Blay noted.
