Great Olympics coach Annor Walker wants former player Awako back

Accra Great Olympics head coach Annor Walker has revealed that efforts are being made to bring midfielder Gladson Awako back to the club.

According to him, the 31-year-old who recently moved to Ghana Premier League champions Heart of Oak on a two-year deal has expressed his unwillingness to play for his new club.

Awako who was impressive in relaunching his career with the ‘Wonder Club’ last season, agreed to a deal worth $15,000 to join the Phobians in the just-ended transfer window but has dominated the local media space for the wrong reasons after the move.

Hearts of Oak signed the midfielder until 2023 to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and most especially for their Champions League campaign but the player pulled out of their squad after just few weeks due to unknown reasons.

In a recent interview with OMY TV, the Black Stars B gaffer disclosed he feels awful for Awako but still trying hard to convince the club management so they can resolve their issues with Hearts of Oak to have the service of the player.

“Honestly, I’m worried for him, because he is my son and I made him who he is today so it is my wish that, management of Great Olympics will return the money and let Awako return to the club,” he said.

“He informed me that, he is not happy moving to Hearts and he is not ready to play for Hearts and he wished he is with me and I’m doing my best to convince management to accept the money and let my former captain return and play for me again.” he added.

Gladson Awako before his move to Hearts of Oak made 43 appearances for the Wonder Club, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists. His stellar display saw him win six ‘Man of the Match’ awards including two ‘Player of the Month’ accolades last season.

The ex-T.P Mazembe midfielder with his impressive form earned himself his Black Stars call up having marked his debut against Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
