Great Ampong allegedly suspended by SDA
Ghanaian gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong has allegedly been suspended by the Seventh Day Adventist Church for going contrary to the doctrine of the church.
Great Ampong is said to have broken a rule of the church by performing shows on Saturday, contrary to keeping the Sabbath Holy.
The suspension, according to a Kumasi-based radio station comes after several weeks of investigation.
Before the sanctions, Great Ampong, has said that the SDA Church did not support its members, particularly musicians, adding that he had been a victim.
In an interview with Okay FM, he lamented that after many sacrifices and contributions he made towards the growth of his church, the SDA had not lifted a finger to support him.
The gospel musician indicated that he and other singers in the church have suffered similar ordeals.
“Don’t even talk about it [SDA church not helping its musicians]. I know how the church handles musicians. They don’t know anything like they are planning something for a musician, it has never been done. I’m not saying the church should help me. I have family and friends and God won’t let me be disgraced.
“I was thinking that since the church has a school and a university, and musicians like Mark Anim Wirenkyi, and Kyei Baffour even trained me, the church could even award a scholarship to the children of these personalities who have helped the church but that is not the case,” he stated.
Great Ampong is an ordained reverend minister at the Divine Word International Ministries, in the United States of America.
The ordination was done by Archbishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng in June 2024.
