GRA investigates alleged extortion by Ashanti Region Customs Task Force
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced investigations into claims of extortion involving certain officers from its Customs Division Task Force in the Ashanti Region.
This follows complaints submitted by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG).
In a press release dated Thursday, November 27, 2025, the GRA acknowledged reports indicating that specific officers had intercepted containers destined for Kumasi, alleging that the goods were undervalued.
TAGG reported that the officers purportedly demanded extra payments from the importer, who contended that these charges were unwarranted.
The Authority stressed that it is addressing the allegations with the utmost seriousness and has launched a thorough internal investigation to ascertain the facts.
It assured the public that the results of the investigation will be disclosed once the process is finalised.
Reiterating its dedication to transparency and accountability, the GRA urged traders, importers, and the public to report any suspected misconduct through its official channels. It highlighted that upholding integrity within its operations is a paramount concern.
