Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted claims made by the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, about a US$75 million loan from a bank without parliamentary approval.
The GRA clarified in a statement issued on Thursday, December 7, that it had initially sought a “no objection” from the Ministry of Finance for the loan, but after receiving it, the board and management decided not to proceed to access the loan.
The statement was issued in response to a reportage by The Ghana Report in which the MP called for a parliamentary investigation into the alleged unauthorised loan.
In the statement, GRA explained that its intention to secure the loan facility for a capital expenditure project was later abandoned.
“It was for this reason that GRA did not proceed to Parliament on the issue.”
GRA added, “We wish to categorically state that the Ghana Revenue Authority has not accessed any US$75 million loan from any bank as indicated by the Honourable Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central.”
