GPL players should move at the right time – Samartex President

President of FC Samartex, Richard Nsenkyire, has voiced his backing for Ghana Premier League players looking to further their careers abroad.

The league has witnessed a notable trend of players departing for clubs across the continent after each season.

Recently, three players, including Samartex captain Saaka Dauda, departed to join clubs in Rwanda.

Nsenkyire emphasized the importance of well-timed moves that benefit the players.

In an interview with 3Sports, he stated, “I always want to give my players the opportunity to play in Ghana, then Africa, before they move on to play anywhere in the world.”

While supporting recent transfer policies among clubs, Nsenkyire stressed the significance of players moving at the right stage of their careers.

He expressed reservations about mass player transfers after just one season, believing players should attain a certain level of performance before seeking opportunities abroad.

As Samartex gears up for its inaugural African campaign, Nsenkyire expressed hopes of retaining key players for the upcoming season.

“I don’t believe in the mass transfer of players after just a season because I believe a player must attain a certain level,” he remarked.

“When you leave the country, you should secure a starting spot and contribute to winning trophies, not just for financial gain.”

Nsenkyire also highlighted his aspiration for players leaving to be capable of representing the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, at any time.
