GPL 2024/25: Young Apostles aiming to end losing run against Accra Lions
Accra Lions will host Ghana Premier League debutants Young Apostles on matchday seven on Saturday, October 19.
The game, scheduled for the University of Ghana Stadium, could see any of the two teams move into the top 10 of the league table with a win before Sunday’s fixtures.
Both teams come into the fixture on the back of two winless games.
Lions lost to Asante Kotoko on matchday five before holding Berekum Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in their last fixture at home.
Ibrahim Tanko’s men currently sit 15th on the league table with five points after six games. While they have managed to score just five goals this campaign, Lions have shipped in seven goals as well in the period.
Lions have lost one of their three games at home this season, losing to newly promoted Vision FC on matchday two.
Young Apostles, on the other hand, have suffered two consecutive defeats in the league for the first time since their promotion, losing to Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak in their last two games.
The Wenchi-based side was close to holding out for a point against the Phobians until Hamza Issah’s late strike handed them defeat at home.
Just like Lions, Apostles also have five points to their name so far this season, after one win and two draws.
Joseph Asare Bediako and his boys have scored five goals with four of them coming at home. Their away record has been poor as they have suffered two defeats and picked up one draw in three games.
Young Apostles will be chasing a first away win in the league and will hope Vision’s three points over Lions will be an inspiration.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 3 PM.
