Govt to introduce Edutourism to enrich Ghana’s educational appeal – Adutwum
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has announced plans to introduce an ‘edutourism’ initiative to attract international students and educators to Ghana.
This programme seeks to blend educational experiences with cultural immersion, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Ghana’s rich history, traditions, and vibrant culture.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at an event in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Adutwum outlined the vision behind the initiative.
He explained that edutourism will create avenues for students worldwide to participate in academic programmes in Ghana, while also exploring the country’s diverse heritage.
“We aim to position Ghana as a leading destination for educational tourism,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
“This initiative is not just about enhancing our educational landscape but also fostering cultural exchange and driving economic growth. By attracting international learners and educators, we can enrich our local educational system and showcase Ghana’s cultural wealth.”
He emphasized that the edutourism initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to transform Ghana’s education sector, making it more globally competitive.
This includes improving the quality of education, promoting innovation, and attracting global talent.
Dr. Adutwum also urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the NPP government, highlighting that retaining the current administration would ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious initiative.
“This is a key step in our agenda to elevate Ghana’s status on the global educational map, and it’s a vision we can achieve together with your continued support,” he added.
