President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a dedicated support fund for the children of the eight Ghanaians who tragically lost their lives in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash at Adansi Akrufuom in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at the burial ceremony held at the Black Star Square, President Mahama said the fund will provide comprehensive support for the children’s education and overall welfare.
It will cover educational expenses from primary school through to tertiary or technical training, as well as health care.
In addition to education and health, the fund will provide essential welfare support such as shelter, clothing, and other basic living expenses.
President Mahama disclosed that Stanbic Bank has opened a designated account for the fund with an initial contribution of GH₵500,000.
He added that the government will immediately provide a seed contribution to kickstart its operations.
To ensure transparency and sustainability, the President announced that a detailed framework for the fund will be operationalised and published within 30 days.
He further assured the public that the fund will be maintained over the long term, with annual public reporting on its usage.
“There will be channels for contributions from citizens, corporate bodies, professional associations, and international partners,” President Mahama said.
“Let us leave our eight comrades today with the promise that their children will not walk alone. They have us and we will walk proudly with them into their future.”
Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna were buried on August 11, following Islamic rites.
The group was en route to Obuasi to launch a government-led initiative against illegal mining (galamsey) when the fatal crash occurred.
