Gov’t has not taken a decision to sanction persons who refuse Covid 19 vaccine
The government has dismissed reports suggesting that it intends to punish persons who fail to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
In a statement reacting to the media reports, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said no decision has been taken to that effect.
“The attention of the Ministry of Information has been drawn to false publication by a number of reputable online portals and newspapers to the effect that Government will sanction persons who refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
“The said reportage is false. Government has neither taken nor announced any such decision,” the statement said.
The reports emanated from a press briefing by the sector minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, at the Peduase Lodge last Monday when the minister was asked whether or not sanctions will be meted out to persons who refused the vaccines.
According to the ministry, Mr Nkrumah’s response was misreported. The general public have been advised to ignore such publications.
The Ministry, however, urged the general public to take the vaccine to reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 illness.
