The Government of Ghana has settled 31 days of arrears owed to caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) for the first term of the 2024/25 academic year.

The payment, made through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has been described as “timely” in comparison to previous disbursements.

A statement issued by the GSFP Secretariat on Thursday, April 10, 2025, expressed gratitude to the government for releasing funds promptly to clear the outstanding arrears.

The National Coordinator of the GSFP, Hajia Fati Forgor, commended the government’s swift action, noting that it marks a positive shift in the programme’s financial management.

In addition to the payment update, Hajia Forgor revealed that a restructuring of the School Feeding Programme is underway.

This restructuring is part of the government’s efforts to decentralize the programme’s operations, enhance the quality of food served, and ensure timely and consistent payments to caterers.

The National Coordinator emphasized that these changes align with the government’s commitment to improving the overall effectiveness of the programme.

“We are also deeply grateful to our donor partners for their continuous support and collaboration with the Government of Ghana in ensuring the sustainability of the Ghana School Feeding Programme,” she added.

The restructuring initiative is expected to enhance the program’s efficiency, providing better services to both the children who benefit from the feeding initiative and the caterers who provide the meals.
