The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has denied allegations by the Minority in Parliament that the government engages the services of land guards.

Members of the Minority on the Lands and Forestry Committee of Parliament accused some state agencies of using land guards in retrieving and protecting government lands.

While addressing the media, the Deputy Ranking Member on the committee, Alhassan Suhuyini said the revelation was made by the Chief Director of the ministry, Professor Patrick Agbesinyale, during a meeting with the committee.

But the ministry in a statement said, it only legally engaged the services of Aynok Holding Limited, a registered limited liability company to assist in reclaiming encroached government lands since 2012.

“The ministry would like to set the records straight that government and for that matter, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources does not contract the services of land guards in its operations.

The statement added emphatically that the government employs legal processes in retrieving state lands that have been taken over by private citizens.
