Gospel music now entertainment instead of soul winning – Bernice Ansah
Ghanaian gospel artiste Bernice Ansah has said the current crop of gospel musicians in the country are more focused on showing off rather than winning souls for Christ.
According to the gospel artiste, three main ingredients must be present in the lives of a gospel artiste in order to release songs under the unction (anointing), including prayer, fasting and reading the word of God.
She noted that the current crop of gospel artiste does not study the word of God.
“As for me, let me talk about myself I’m winning souls for Christ because the Bible says that we should go into the world and preach the gospel and set the captives free. So for me, I’m preaching the gospel through music.
“If you compare gospel music 20 years back to today’s gospel music, it has become gymnastics; it has become some sort of entertainment. The spirit of that gospel that we used to know years back is no longer existent in these times. Only a few individuals who are bent on serving God are doing real gospel music. Gospel music has become like material things”, she noted in an interview on CTV.
She revealed that releasing gospel songs under the unction that will impact lives, requires preparation on the part of the artiste, and that is what is missing among the current gospel singers.
“First, you don’t just get up and launch a song. There are preparations that go into it: you wait on the Lord, for 30 days or more, Pastors have to pray and even sometimes get back to you on the lyrics – a lot goes into it. You don’t just get up and sing,” she shared.
“So if you listen to the old songs, you’ll realise if you listen to Mary Ghansah, Tagoe Sisters, Daughters and Suzzy & Matt, you’ll feel the presence of God because they were under the unction. Even in the studio where the songs are recorded people can enter the studio and even get their deliverance.”
She added: “Now the gospel musicians don’t study the word of God. We enjoy showing off more than reading the word of God. Fasting, praying and reading the word of God is very important as a gospel artiste.
