Gold dealer accused of attacking fiancée with hammer
A 39-year-old gold dealer, Osman Mumuni, has been accused of attacking his fiancée with a hammer at Kasoa, leaving her with severe injuries after accusing her of infidelity.
The victim, 29-year-old Barikisu Abdullah, said she regained consciousness in the hospital after losing memory during the violent assault.
She explained that Osman, whom she met a year ago, rented a room for her in Kasoa while he lived in Bolgatanga.
According to her, a week after the Eid al-Fitr celebration, Osman sneaked into her room one night and hit her repeatedly with a hammer while she slept.
She said Osman later called her parents to apologise and admitted to the attack.
Pictures she shared showed a fractured skull and broken teeth.
When contacted, Osman admitted to assaulting her but denied using a hammer.
He insisted the confrontation arose from suspicions that Barikisu was cheating despite the support he had given her.
He claimed to have rented her room for GH¢6,000 a year, bought her a phone, gave her GH¢500 weekly and GH¢100 daily for upkeep, as well as business capital.
Osman said she disrespected him, insulted him, and refused intimacy, which increased his suspicion.
Barikisu, however, denied the cheating allegations, explaining that her late-night calls were business-related. She also said she refused intimacy because they were not married.
She added that Osman ridiculed her family by postponing meetings to formalise their relationship.
The case has since been reported to the Kasoa police, while Osman has promised to cover her medical bills and meet her family.
