‘Go into Ablekuma West, preach gospel of NPP achievements’ – Ursula re-election campaign launched
The NPP election machine in the Ablekuma West constituency of the Greater Accra region has been unveiled with a charge to ensure its MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is re-elected.
At a well-attended launch at Dansoman Exhibition Roundabout, the NPP MP said there is verifiable records to show residents in the constituency have had their fair share of social and economic development programmes.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful who is gunning for a third term in parliament and the Communications Minister won the 2016 parliamentary elections with 34,376.
Her closest challenger, Diana Owusu got 20,976.
This time around however a different challenger, Reverend Kweku Addo, is coming up against the experienced MP.
But at an enthusiastic unveiling of the NPP Ablekuma West campaign team, the party leadership expressed confidence, it would double the votes obtained by the MP in 2016.
Giving a glimpse of the party’s strategy, Director of Operations at the Jubliee House, Lord Oblitey Commey, who is a former NPP National Organiser, said the NPP has adopted a retail campaign strategy.
He said every party member is obliged to identify an allotted number of voters to monitor this cell to ensure they vote for the NPP in December.
He drew parallels to the evangelisation plan used by Jehovah Witness whose members are known to be persistent in visiting homes to share the word of God.
Quoting Matthew 28: 19 which enjoins Christians to go into the world and preach the gospel, Lord Commey charged the NPP members to also go into the constituency to preach the message of development under the Akufo-Addo government.
While pointing out that party members have received support in various ways, the president’s Director of Operations urged the footsoldiers not to focus on their personal gains since the party came to power in 2017.
He said party members should be proud that at least through their individual efforts, Ghanaian students can now go to Senior High Secondary School for free.
