Gloria Sarfo Condemns AMAA Organisers Over Flight Troubles

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has criticised the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) organizers after logistical issues left several Ghanaian filmmakers stranded at the Kotoka International Airport on November 1, 2024.

Despite promises of an all-expense-paid trip to the 20th AMAAs in Lagos, Nigeria, Ms Sarfo revealed that flight tickets provided were invalid, preventing many from boarding.

Well-known filmmakers like Abdul Salam Mumuni, Frank Rajah, and Akorfa Adjeani faced similar problems, with Sarfo highlighting the immeasurable frustration that they had to endure.

She called out AMAAs for lack of communication and professionalism and expressed her dismay at how the organizers failed to provide assistance or clarification, leaving the team from Ghana without support or solutions at the airport.

“It’s not right to promise a sponsored trip and then abandon us,” she stated, explaining how this disrupted her schedule and opportunities, including missing a film set and an awards ceremony where she was nominated for some honours.

Reports indicate that some Ghanaian attendees who managed to reach Nigeria also encountered accommodation issues, adding to the frustrations. As of now, AMAA organizers have not publicly addressed Ms. Sarfo’s concerns or the ticketing mishap.

She believes the treatment meted out to them shows a lack of respect for Ghana’s film industry.
