GJA announces nominees for 25th media awards
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced nominees for the 25th GJA Media Awards.
The nominees, numbering 63 were selected from different media outlets for their numerous efforts in promoting and enhancing good journalism practice in the country.
This year’s awards ceremony themed “COVID-19 and credible presidential and parliamentary elections: the media factor” will be held on October,24 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.
The chairperson of the 25th Media Awards Committee, Betty Apau-Oppong, said the nominees were selected from some 625 and 75 in hard and online entries respectively.
“Some entries did not have names and their media houses were not signed by their editors, others too were found to be shoddy and did not meet journalistic standards,” she said.
On his part, the president of the Ghana Journalist Association, Roland Affail Monney called for more entries next year.
“GJA awards are the pinnacle of the profession and therefore every journalist must aspire to win one” he added.
This year’s ceremony will award journalists who have shone in reporting COVID_19 and its related news.
“COVID_19 is new to all of us and so we have a special award for some selected journalists who have excelled in reporting coronavirus and its related news,” he said.
Theghanareport’s Edwin Appiah has been nominated to receive a special award on the night.
Also, theghanareport.com was nominated as one of the most outstanding news portal in the year under review.
