GIJ to establish ‘Digital Media Hub’ to equip students
Ghana’s premier communication school, Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) is set to establish a ‘Digital Media Hub’ that would equip students of the institute with the changing trends in technology.
The Rector of GIJ, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo made this known at the Grand durbar of the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the school on Wednesday.
According to Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo, the Digital Media Hub forms part of the institute’s vision of ensuring that students from GIJ are able to distinguish themselves as communicators in the job market.
“The institute had set a path to strengthen its technological and programme capacity to equip student to be communication practitioners to meet the expectations of the fast changing digital age,” he said.
He added that GIJ had taken note of today’s fast changing technological and communication environment hence the building of the Digital Media Hub.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Communications, George Andah, in his address also lauded the idea of the Digital Media Hub noting that, “I believe we should all come together to make this happen”.
“The School is positioning itself to take advantage of technologies and introducing innovative programmes and finding ways to give student access to new technology to enable them keep the pace with global trends therefore the need for all to come on board, ” he said.
The ceremony, which was attended by industry players, stakeholders, past and current students of the school was on the theme: “Celebrating our Past; Inspiring our Future. ”
