Major shake-up hits Ghana Health Service
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed a significant reshuffling of regional health directors to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.
Beginning April 14, 2025, these changes are designed to enhance the healthcare framework and align with GHS’s strategic goals.
Among the notable appointments, Dr. Samuel Kwabena Boakye-Boateng moves from his role as the Regional Director of Health Services for the Upper East Region to become the director of the Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division (PPMED) at GHS headquarters.
Additionally, Dr. Kennedy T.C. Brightson, who was previously the Medical Superintendent at Shai-Osudoku Municipal Hospital, will take on the position of acting director of family health at the headquarters.
Dr. Abdulai Abukari transitions from his role as the RDHS for the Northern Region to serve as the Director of Special Duties at GHS headquarters.
Dr. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko has been reassigned from PPMED to the RDHS for the Central Region.
Dr. Marion Okoh-Owusu will also be making a move from the Family Health Division at headquarters to become the RDHS for the Bono East Region.
Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari will now serve as the RDHS for the Upper East Region, having held the same role in the North East Region. Meanwhile, Dr. Damien Punguyire transitions from the Upper West Region to the Eastern Region.
Other notable changes include Dr. Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghi, who will now take on the RDHS role in the Upper West Region after moving from the Savannah Region, and Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, who shifts from the Ahafo Region to the Volta Region.
Dr. Akosua A. Owusu-Sarpong takes over the RDHS responsibilities for Ahafo after serving as RDHS for Greater Accra, while Dr. Chrysantus Kubio moves from the Volta Region to the Bono East Region.
Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah, formerly RDHS for Bono East, is set to serve in the Western North Region, and Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong transitions to the Northern Region from his previous role as RDHS for Western North.
Dr. John Ekow Otoo, previously the Medical Director at Upper West Regional Hospital, has been appointed RDHS for the North East Region, and Dr. Robert Amesiya, who served in the Savannah Region, will now act as the Regional Director for Greater Accra.
The GHS has stressed that these strategic reassignments are essential for enhancing efficient and effective healthcare delivery.
This restructuring aims to optimize service provision and meet the evolving healthcare needs of the population, underscoring GHS’s commitment to advancing public health across the nation.
