Ghosts Of 1984 Stare At Ghana Black Stars
Should the Ghana Black Stars lose their second group match in the 2023 AFCON campaign underway in the Ivory Coast, then the current team would have taken delivery of the replica of the ignominious image of the 1984 debacle. Their performance was given the unenviable tag as a result of losing twice on the trot and managing only one victory. Incidentally, 40 years on, the host venue where things fell apart for Ghana, is back to roost.
Fast-forwarded to the current edition, Ghana has already lost a game, thus the game with Egypt is make or break. Ghana has no other option, not even the gamble, but to beat the Egyptian Pharaohs.
Egypt is doubly tough, and to beat them would be a stirrer. The ghosts of the 1984 debacle are already haunting Ghana as it is on the brink. The Sword of Damocles, and the Crown of Victory dangling to the face of the Black Stars. Only a miracle would save Ghana.
