Ghastly accident on Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway claims seven lives

Seven people have been confirmed dead, and 18 others have sustained injuries as a result of a head-on collision involving a Sprinter bus and a MAN Diesel truck at Komenda Asamasa on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

The incident took place on Monday, January 12, 2026, at approximately 7:25 pm.

According to a statement shared on the Ghana National Fire Service Facebook page, personnel from the Komenda Fire Station responded swiftly and rescued six individuals who were trapped inside the Sprinter bus after it veered off the road and into a nearby bush.

All seven victims, which included three females—one of whom was pregnant—a baby, and three males, were declared dead upon arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Additionally, a female passenger who had been transported to the hospital earlier was also pronounced dead, raising the death toll to seven.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the Man Diesel truck, bearing registration number GS 8394 Y, was travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast when it lost control while attempting to overtake and collided head-on with the oncoming Sprinter bus, which was registered as GS 6705-21.

Eighteen injured passengers, who were rescued prior to the arrival of the GNFS team, are presently receiving medical care.

Following the rescue operation, GNFS personnel cleared debris from the roadway to restore traffic flow and ensure safety at the scene.
