Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Alhaji Rashid Bawa, is reportedly dead.
He died in Nigeria on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at age 83.
The body of Alhaji Bawa is expected to be in Ghana within the next few days for burial, in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Alhaji Rashid Bawa also served as Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2005–2008.
He was also the Member of Parliament for Akan Constituency in the Oti Region from January 7, 2001, to January 6, 2005, and contested as an independent candidate.
In June 2017, President Akufo-Addo named Alhaji Rashid Bawa as Ghana’s Ambassador to Nigeria.
He was among eight other distinguished Ghanaians who were named to head various diplomatic Ghanaian missions across the world.
