Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged young people in Ghana to focus on creating opportunities rather than relying solely on traditional employment, stressing that the country’s development will depend on individuals who build businesses and generate jobs.

Delivering the keynote address at the Beyond the Degree Conference 2026, on Saturday, March 14, he said Ghana’s economic future cannot depend entirely on graduates seeking employment in already stretched institutions.

“The future of Ghana cannot be built by job seekers alone. It must also be built by job creators,” he said.

According to him, entrepreneurship and innovation are increasingly important as the number of graduates entering the labour market continues to grow each year.

Afenyo-Markin encouraged young people to explore opportunities in areas such as entrepreneurship, technical skills, digital innovation, agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative economy, noting that these sectors offer avenues to create value and sustainable livelihoods.

The Effutu MP posits that individuals who take the initiative to build enterprises will not only transform their own lives but also provide employment opportunities for others.

The Minority Leader also pointed to global business leaders such as Bill Gates, Jack Ma, and Steve Jobs as examples of people who achieved remarkable success by pursuing innovation and enterprise beyond conventional career paths.

He noted that those who rise to the challenge will shape opportunities and extend them to others, adding that such leadership is essential for Ghana’s progress in a rapidly evolving global economy.
