Ghana’s Evelyn Badu has been crowned 2022 CAF Young Women’s Player of the Year at the awards gala held in Rabat, Morocco, yesterday.

The talented forward was instrumental in the success story of Hasaacas Ladies last season, leading the team to the final of the inaugural TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League and winning the tournament’s Golden Boot.

For her exploits in the past year, the Black Princesses’ deputy captain scooped a double on the night as she was also named the Interclub Player of the Year award in the Women’s category.

She was unable to attend the awards gala because she is in the camp of the Black Princesses preparing for the 2022 FIFA U20 World Cup.

However, her awards are expected to be delivered to her by CAF.

The night also handed Senegalese forward Sadio Mane his second African Player of the Year crown after leading the Teranga Lions to its maiden Africa Cup of Nations title, beating off competition from Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and fellow countryman Edouard Mendy.

He became the fifth African after El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, and Mohamed Salah to win the award in consecutive years since CAF took over the award distribution in 1992.

Also, Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala set a new record when she walked away with her fifth Women’s Player of the Year award.

The annual event was attended by past and present players, coaches, and football administrators to reward players who have done exceptionally well in the past year.
