The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported that Ghana’s economy in 2025 remained largely driven by the services sector, which continued to dominate overall economic activity.

Releasing the provisional December 2025 Monthly Indicators of Economic Growth on Tuesday, March 17, Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, said the services sector recorded a growth rate of 8.1 per cent, contributing 58.2 per cent of total GDP growth and accounting for 45.9 per cent of the economy.

According to the report, Ghana’s economy remains services-led, with sectoral contributions to GDP in 2025 comprising Services (45.9%), Industry (31.3%), and Agriculture (22.8%).

The GSS noted that expansion within the services sector was largely driven by digital and knowledge-based activities. Key contributors included Information and Communication, which grew by 20.2 per cent, followed by Education (11.6%), Transport and Storage (8.6%), and Financial and Insurance Activities (6.8%).

The report further highlighted that a small number of sectors accounted for the bulk of economic growth in 2025. These included Information and Communication, Crops, Gold, Manufacturing, Transport and Storage, and Education, which together contributed about 87 per cent of total GDP growth.

The GSS said this trend underscores the key sectors driving Ghana’s economic expansion and reflects the increasing importance of services and technology-related activities in the country’s growth trajectory.
