Ghana’s COVID-19 cases shoots to 21

Ghana has recorded two additional cases of the deadly coronavirus, bringing its total number of confirmed cases to 21, with one death.

This came minutes after President Akufo-Addo addressed the nation on measures taken so far by government to tackle the virus.

Addressing the nation on government’s efforts so far, the President announced a shutdown of all of the country’s borders effective Sunday midnight.

He said all persons who arrive in the country prior to the enforcement of the shut down will be subjected to mandatory quarantine.

Additionally, the president said the government had ordered 50,000 test kits, which were expected to arrive “shortly”.

He revealed that government is moblising more health professionals, including those on retirement, to join in dealing with a possible surge.

He, however, appealed to Ghanaians to continue to adhere to the strict protocols on personal hygeine as well as social distancing withing the period of the outbreak.

“I am pleading with each and everyone of you comply with these measures,” he said.

He explained Ghana’s five broad objectives in fighting covid-19 are to limit the infections, contain the situation, provide adequate care and limit the socio-economic impact of the global pandemic.

Already, government has banned all forms of social gathering as the country continues to record more infections.

Delivering his third update on government’s measures to Ghanaians, President Akufo-Addo declared Wednesday, March 25, 2020 as a national day of prayer and fasting.

He wants all religious groups in the country to join hands in seeking the face of the Almighty as Ghana’s COVID-19 cases continue to soar.
