The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), John M. K. Wumborti, has reassured Ghanaians that the country’s airspace remains safe and secure.
This comes after recent incidents, including a Z-9 helicopter crash and emergency landings involving another aircraft.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Mr. Wumborti emphasised that Ghana’s aviation sector is governed by rigorous safety protocols and continuous oversight.
“Aviation is no joke. Every aircraft undergoes extensive checks and strict procedures before it takes off. These systems give passengers a 99.999% certainty of arriving safely at their destination,” he explained.
Mr. Wumborti also highlighted Ghana’s strong performance in a recent international aviation safety audit, scoring 89.89%—a reflection, he said, of the country’s solid and reliable safety framework.
He called on the public to maintain confidence in the nation’s air travel system, assuring them that the Bureau and relevant authorities would take swift preventive action at the first sign of any potential issue.
“Our airspace is safe. Our aircraft are safe. We want to assure the public that they can fly with confidence,” he stated.
Mr. Wumborti also appealed to the media to play a more active role in educating the public about aviation safety, helping to build trust and awareness across the country.
