Ghana’s 66 Independence Day Celebration Officially Launched

The National Planning Committee has officially launched Ghana’s 66 Independence Day celebration under the theme  “Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose” and it is to be held in Ho, the Volta regional capital.

The launching was attended by the Head of Communications of the National Planning Committee, Jefferson Sackey, Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Lord Commey, Volta Regional Minister Dr Archibald Yao Letsa and other executives of the Committee.

The Committee on the same day out-doored the logo for the 66th Independence Day Celebration.

According to Mr Jefferson Sackey, the logo of the anniversary represents figure 66 resting comfortably on the highest mountain in Ghana, Mountain Afadjato (Mount Afadja).

The logo which is designed in red, gold, green and black, according to Mr Sackey, “symbolizes the blood of the fore-bearers of the country, mineral wealth, rich forest and natural vegetation and the Lonestar of African freedom respectively”

“It also embodies the Volta River; the main river which has served the nation with water, electricity and tourism potentials, the Sabala, an Adinkra symbol; representing coexistence and tolerance, and the independence arch; to symbolize Ghana’s independence”.

The Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Lord Commey, speaking on the reason for choosing Volta Region this year said, “the event would sell the Volta Region to the world as about 5,000 invitations have been extended to “very very important personalities from across the world“ to attend the independence day parade, on the 6th of March, scheduled to be held at the Volta Regional Youth Resource Centre at Adaklu”.

“He said that the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló would grace the parade as the special guest of honour”, he added.

The Planning Committee also added that 22 contingents from the security agencies and 12 schools among other institutions would participate in the parade.

The Chairman of the Committee urged the people in the Volta Region to take an advantage of the National event and appreciated the regional organizing committees for their support in organizing the Independence day celebration each year.

He promised Ghanaians and those in the diaspora to expect nothing but the best in this year’s Independence Day Celebrations.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa also appealed to stakeholders to support the organizing committee to deliver a successful independence anniversary celebration.
