Ghanaians will suffer without Bawumia as President – KT Hammond

Former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T. Hammond, has declared that Ghana could face serious challenges if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not elected President in the 2028 general election.

Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign stop in the Ashanti Region on September 10, Mr. Hammond expressed strong support for the former Vice President, describing him as a competent leader who deserves the nation’s highest office.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s work ethic and policy knowledge make him the right person to lead the country forward.

He also pushed back against criticism based on religious grounds, calling it divisive and outdated.

“Have you monitored Bawumia’s capabilities and hard work? It is madness to say Bawumia is a Muslim, so he cannot be President. We will suffer if Bawumia is not elected as President,” Mr. Hammond said.

He urged Ghanaians to look beyond religious affiliations when choosing their next leader and instead focus on competence, experience, and commitment to national development.

Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President from 2017 to 2025, is widely seen as a frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a likely candidate in the 2028 election.

His supporters argue that his economic background and digital policy initiatives position him well to tackle the country’s pressing challenges.

Mr. Hammond’s comments come at a time when discussions about religious identity in politics are gaining attention, prompting calls for a focus on unity and merit-based leadership.
