Ghanaians are exceptionally talented, says creative consultant
Creative and cultural consultant Nana Ofosu Adjei has said Ghanaians are exceptionally talented because most of them excel on international stages.
In an interview, Kantinka, as he is affectionately called, said he believes there are exceptionally talented people in Ghana.
“I’m saying this because there have been certain instances where Ghanaians have been put on international platforms and then they have performed very well.”
“And so if by judging by maybe the standards out there, not only comparing ourselves among ourselves but comparing ourselves with people beyond our borders,”
He added, “So it is not the case that we do not have talent here; however, the problem could be that we lack the knowledge or abilities to harness these talents in order to make more out of them, which could be a challenge, but talent itself is abundant here.
He, however, noted that the Ghanaian community does not celebrate creative talent.
“I think first of all it’s partly because of the kind of society or the kind of communities that we find ourselves in because we do not glorify so much talent.”
Kantinka emphasised that in the creative sector, there are few systems or programs in place to ensure that these talents in the creative industry are functioning properly.
“….. and so it becomes very difficult for people to look up to it and say, okay fine, this is an area that is gloomy, and so I want to take advantage of it.”
He added that Ghana’s creative industry is not motivated to put in place certain systems and platforms that will help the industry thrive.
“… and that is why we more like to see ourselves in this situation because of how we perceive the sector to be and so we don’t put much effort or much attention to building the systems and the platforms that will make it thrive.
