Ghanaian students in Israel are safe – Embassy assures NUGS
The Ghana Embassy in Israel has assured the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) that students in Israel are very safe amidst the crossfire with Gaza.
The Embassy also said the security situation in Israel is being monitored and will continue to provide updates on students and the larger Ghanaian community as and when needed.
“I wish to inform you that the Embassy is in touch with Ghanaian students in Israel and that they are all doing well. The Embassy is also monitoring the security situation and will continue to provide updates for our students and the larger Ghanaian Community, as and when needed”, a statement by the Embassy of Ghana in response to NUGS’ request on the update of Ghanaian students in Israel noted.
“We have advised all compatriots who are able to leave at this time to go ahead and do so. The Embassy is available to provide logistic support where necessary for those who respond to the call to depart immediately,” the statement added.
The Israel-Hamas war is one of the unexpected disturbances recorded in the world this year.
The number of United States citizens confirmed to have been killed in the Israel-Hamas war has risen to at least 22, with at least 17 more Americans unaccounted for, says the US Department of State.
That is an increase in the death toll from 14 on Tuesday in a war that has killed more than 2,300 on both sides in five days.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in a statement on October 11, dismissed the authenticity of a viral video purporting that Ghanaians are caught up in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The ministry stated categorically that the incident in the said video did not occur in Gaza nor Israel, or anywhere related to the ongoing conflict.
“The general public is therefore advised to disregard this misleading video”.
“The Ministry takes the opportunity to assure the general public that the Ghanaian Community in Israel is currently safe. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates in due course”.
