A 24-year-old Ghanaian student, identified as Charles Yeboah Baffour, has sadly passed away after being involved in a ghastly accident in Italy.

The deceased, a student at the University of Cassino, was returning to campus from work on the night of Friday, April 5, 2025, when the accident occurred.

Prince Boadu Boateng, the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in Italy, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report.

He revealed that Charles had completed his undergraduate studies in 2023 and was currently pursuing a Master’s degree.

Eyewitnesses reported that after the accident, Charles was swiftly transported to the emergency unit at Santa Scholastica Hospital in Cassino.

He was given medical care and was discharged around 3:30 a.m., but unfortunately, without anyone to accompany him, he spent the night in the hospital corridors.

The following morning, he was found in critical condition and ultimately succumbed to internal bleeding due to a ruptured liver.

Prince revealed that Charles’ family, who live in Modena, were called to the hospital to identify their son.

The loss has left both the student community and Charles’ family devastated, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.

In his honour, a candlelight procession has been organised.

The Ghana Mission in Italy has been notified and is extending support to the family during this difficult time.

Prince also urged President John Mahama and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to take a personal interest in the case to ensure a prompt investigation and possible prosecution.
