A 39-year-old Ghanaian, identified as Adu Boakye, has been killed in a random shooting in northwest Toronto, Canada.

According to the police in Toronto, the victim was waiting for a bus in the area of Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue on Saturday, February 17, around 3 pm when the assailant shot him three times.

Another unnamed 16-year-old boy was shot under similar circumstances less than 24 hours before Boakye.

The 16-year-old victim who was shot on Friday is in critical condition with potentially life-altering injuries.

“Our investigation thus far has revealed there is no relationship between Mr. Boakye and the individual, or individuals, who shot him. And like the victim shot the day before, Mr Boakye was innocently going about his business [when he was shot],” Detective Phillip Campbell of the Toronto police told reporters.

Detective Campbell said the police believe these two victims were shot indiscriminately, adding neither victim has any affiliation with gang-related activity.

Although no arrests have been made, Toronto police say they are looking for a black male around 18 to 25 years old.

Authorities are also seeking further information from members of the community to help arrest the suspect.

Adu Boakye who moved to Canada in November 2023 to support his family left behind a wife and four children.
