Ghanaian foreign based players don’t respect local coaches – Former Sports Minister
Former Deputy Sports Minister, Oppong Asamoah has bemoaned the relationship between local coaches and some Ghanaian foreign-based players, says he prefers foreign coaches for the Senior National Team, Black Stars.
He said, local coaches often don’t get respect from players plying their trades in Europe making their job difficult.
The Former Minister’s concern comes on the back of recent development at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to find a replacement for former Black Star coach, Kwesi Appiah.
“I support the opinion of getting a foreign coach if we are going to use the foreign based players to play for us because some of these players believe they are more experienced than these local coaches,” he said in an interview with Happy FM monitored by theghanareport.com.
“There’s no respect for the local coaches in the eyes of these foreign based players. We can go in for the best foreign coach and make a local coach as the assistant to learn from him,”
“Currently Kwasi Appiah is the best local coach so if we don’t want him, then we should go in for a foreign coach,” he added.
