Ghanaian doctor arrested in Canada for sexually assaulting patient

A 64-year-old Ghanaian doctor, Dr. Clarence Clottey is facing a new sexual assault charge involving a female patient, according to the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS).

Dr Clottey was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of sexual assault.

Dr Clottey worked at Bristol Family Physicians in Oakville at the time of the alleged offence.

This isn’t his first run-in with the law.

In 2016, he faced six counts of sexual assault but was acquitted in 2018.

In 2020, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) placed restrictions on Dr Clottey’s practice due to allegations of misconduct and separate sexual assault charges.

He was also arrested in 2019 for allegedly assaulting a female patient in 2014.

Dr Clottey was barred from examining female patients’ breast, pelvic, or rectal areas and required to refer such cases to another physician.

He was also suspended for a year in 2017.

Police believe there may be additional victims and have released Dr Clottey’s photo for other victims to report any alleged cases.

Dr Clottey has been released from custody pending a court appearance in Milton.
