The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Ashanti Region has shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant and the Achiase Booster for repairs.

This follows a major burst on the 36” (900mm) transmission line that supplies water to the Kumasi metropolis.

GWCL explained that the transmission line was damaged by equipment used by a contractor constructing drains from the Suame roundabout to Breman Ahenful.

Affected areas include Suame, Tafo/Pankrono, Asokwa, Bantama, Sokoban, Kronum, Barekese, Manhyia, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Atasamanso, Kotwi, Adum, KNUST, Odoum, Asokore Mampong, and surrounding areas.

GWCL assured that its engineers are diligently working to repair the line and resume operations as soon as possible.

Water supply will resume immediately upon completion of the repairs.

In a statement, GWL informed its customers: “The engineers of GWL are working assiduously to repair the line and resume operations as early as practicable.

“The transmission line was perforated by equipment of the contractor constructing drains from the Suame roundabout to Breman Ahenful,” the statement said.
