Ghana to host Gulf of Guinea Commission Summit on August 6

Ghana is set to host the 6th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

The Summit, themed “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development,” aims to assess the progress of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC),

It also seeks to propose measures to enhance its objective of promoting cooperation, peace, security, and sustainable development among member states.

The Gulf of Guinea Commission is a framework for consultation and cooperation among Gulf of Guinea countries, focusing on conflict prevention, management, and resolution, particularly in border demarcation and natural resource exploitation within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Summit will be preceded by meetings of the Council of Ministers on August 5, 2024, and the Committee of Experts on August 4, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

According to the Ministry, this high-level gathering presents an opportunity for member states to reaffirm their commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development, ensuring a secure and prosperous Gulf of Guinea region for future generations.
