Ghana has been selected to host the 2026 African Athletics Championship, according to reports.
The 2026 Championship will be held in Ghana with the University of Ghana Stadium in line to serve as the host venue for the competition.
The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) accepted Ghana’s bid, beating out Botswana, and Ghana Athletics announced the news on social media.
Ghana’s bidding team had National Sports Authority Deputy General Bawa Majid, Ghana Athletics President Bawa Fuseini and Ghana Athletics Vice President Charles Osei Asibey on it.
This development comes as Ghana prepares to participate in the 2024 African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon, with a team of 18 athletes, including Rose Yeboah, Fuseini Ibrahim, and Isaac Botsio.
The event also serves as a qualifier to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
