Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has named a 27-man squad to face Nigeria for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff.

The squad list released by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Tuesday had Mohammed Kudus and goalkeeper Richard Ofori who were out due to injuries after missing the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The team began its preparations on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium with only seven players in camp, but the number is expected to increase in their next training session.

Otto Addo has handed debut call ups to Belgium-based duo of Denis Odoi and Elisha Owusu, Montari Kamahene of Ashdod FC in Israel and Dennis Korsah of Hearts of Oak.

Denis Odoi and Elisha Owusu were born in Belgium but have Ghanaian roots through their fathers.

Meanwhile, Italy-based Felix Afena-Gyan, who could not join the team that represented Ghana in this year’s AFCON despite being named, is set to join the attacking force for this crucial encounter.

Missing out of the team are France-based winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who is injured and captain of the side, Andre Ayew, who is serving a suspension after picking up a red card in the Stars’ final group match at the AFCON against Comoros, but he will return for the second leg on March 29.

However, his brother Jordan Ayew has been named despite earlier reports of testing positive for Covid-19.

Ghana and Nigeria will compete in the playoff for one of Africa’s spots in Qatar’s World Cup.
