Ghana Premier League: Fair play is key to growth of local league- Godwin Attram
Former Black Stars player Godwin Attram has emphasized the need for fairness and strict adherence to rules in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) if it is to rival the world’s top leagues like the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga.
Attram, now a Coach and Academy manager, believes the foundation of a successful league lies in the integrity of its officiating and the commitment to playing the game fairly.
We have to play football fairly in the country.
That is all.
The football has to be played fairly. You know, the referees ,the managers, we the chairmen, we the presidents, we must support the FA.
If things are going wrong, we must let them know that things are going wrong so that things will change and we will have sponsorship.
But football must be played fairly.” he stated.
He argues that consistency in enforcing regulations and creating a level playing field will not only improve the quality of the league but also attract more investment and a larger fan base.
He also added that match officials should be definite in their decisions as their actions are a reflection of what the league is
As a match commissioner or as somebody to go out there and watch.
We want only yes or no.
Is this a goal or is it not a goal?
Just to prove our innocence yes or no.
That’s it.
Because the game has become controversial and there is there’s going to be a fight. So I think so. That’s a step to go to the camera.
And the cameraman will show you if that is a goal or not, by then the referee has already to pointed the goal.
