Ghana playing Ethiopia in Johannesburg isn’t fair – South Africa coach Hugo Broos

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has expressed his displeasure over the change of venue in Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifying game against Ethiopia

Initially, the game was to be honoured at the usual Bahir Dar Stadium but the venue got rejected by the CAF inspection team who deem it unfit to host the game.

However, Ethiopia have played all their first two home matches in the ongoing qualifiers at the same venue against Zimbabwe and South Africa of which they have picked only three points.

With this, the Walia Ibexes will have no choice but to host the Black Stars at a neutral venue and thus the Orlando Stadium in South Africa after the closest national stadium in Zimbabwe also got rejected by the continent’s highest football governing body.

Giving his view on that, Hugo Broos who has beaten Ghana in his last two meetings with them has disclosed it is unfair for Ghana to play Ethiopia in Johannesburg after they had struggled to grind results at the dilapidated Bahir Dar Stadium and is expecting the West African country to go through the same stress. He said;

“We played in a bad pitch and had to grind out the results.”

“When I saw that pitch for the first time, I asked myself how they got the approval from Fifa. We worked hard to get the three points and I expected Ghana to do the same.”

“But now it will be easy for them at the Orlando Stadium because it is a world-class facility. It is not fair play. Ghana will have it easy, while it was difficult for us. Playing in SA means they have an advantage.”

South Africa are currently leading Group G with ten points, whiles Ghana follows on nine. Winner of the group will advance to the final playoff round and subsequently book their ticket to Qatar in 2022
