Ghana moves to West African WASSCE in 2026 – GES
Head of Public Relations for the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyí, has reminded students, parents, and schools that Ghana will transition from the national WASSCE to the international version, which will be taken by all West African member countries in May/June 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, December 1, Fenyí emphasised that this shift requires stronger preparation from candidates.
“As Ghana moves from the Ghana-only WASSCE to the international WASSCE, written by all West African member countries in May/June 2026, GES management urges students to prepare thoroughly for the examination,” the statement said.
GES also reassured the public that it will continue to protect the integrity of the country’s examination system, stressing that there will be no relaxation of rules or procedures.
“Management of GES will not compromise the integrity of examinations,” Fenyí added.
The Service further confirmed its commitment to collaboration with key stakeholders.
“GES will continue to work closely with heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, communities, Civil Society Organisations, and WAEC to improve teaching, learning, and the credibility of examinations,” the statement noted.
The clarification follows remarks from former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, who suggested that GES policies may have contributed to this year’s WASSCE performance.
GES dismissed these claims and urged the public to focus on factual information regarding the conduct and outcomes of the exams.
GES maintains that the 2025 WASSCE results accurately reflect students’ academic performance, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen supervision, curb malpractice, and ensure credible assessments.
