The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has urged the Ghanaian populace to put in place the necessary precaution as the country is to expect more rain in the coming weeks.

The agency however, was quick to add the intensity of the expected rain may not be same as as it was this Monday.

A director at the GMA, Joseph Ayisi, speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr, said people in flood-prone areas should be careful as we are to expect more ‘showers’.

He noted “People should pay attention to weather forecast and avoid flood prone areas. The rains we are to expect going forward shouldn’t get heavier than what we saw yesterday. ”

Hours of torrential rains in Accra and Kumasi caused massive flooding in various communities in both towns.

It is not regular in Ghana for the rains to fall in October. Many have blamed the current rainfall pattern on climate change, human activities and illegal structures in water ways.

The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) believes that the flooding incident on the Tema Motorway after Monday’s rainfall is as a result of human activities especially settlements along the motorway.

BPS said until such activities are stopped, the motorway is likely to see more of such floods.
