Ghana maintain spot in latest FIFA rankings
The Black Stars of Ghana have maintained their position at 76th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, which were released on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
This ranking remains unchanged from the previous update in April, following a series of mixed results in their recent international matches.
This steady rank comes after Ghana participated in the 2025 Unity Cup, held in England. In that tournament, the Black Stars narrowly lost to Nigeria in the semi-finals but managed to defeat Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff.
The Unity Cup served as part of the team’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Before the Unity Cup, Ghana had improved their position, moving up from 77th to 76th due to back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar in the World Cup qualifying series.
While Ghana’s performance in recent matches was commendable, it was not enough to further improve their global standing. However, the team has now moved ahead of Montenegro, which dropped three places in the latest rankings. On the continental level, Ghana remains 14th in Africa, with no change in position.
The team still trails the continent’s top football nations, including Morocco, Senegal, and Nigeria, which occupy higher spots. The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, is expected to use the upcoming fixtures in September, Matchday 7 and 8 of the World Cup qualifiers, as opportunities to improve both performance and ranking.
Ghana will face Chad and Mali in these matches, with the aim of strengthening their qualification hopes for the 2026 tournament.
As several competitive games lie ahead, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is hopeful that the team can build on recent successes and achieve a higher ranking in the next update later this year.
