Ghana legend Andre Ayew happy playing on at aged 35

Ghana legend Andre Ayew insists he has no plans to hang up his boots anytime soon, insisting he ‘loves what he’s doing and not ready to stop’.

The 35-year-old, who is enjoying a decent run at French side Le Havre, continues to the odds despite his age with an impressive 17-year professional career under his belt.

The former Swansea City and West Ham United forward is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to earn plaudits for his performances in the French Lique 1.

Ayew, who is the  most capped Ghanaian (120), is known for  his leadership and technical skills on the field, and remains motivated and passionate about the game despite his advancing age in a sport where many players retire in their early to mid-30s.

He has attributed his longevity to a mix bag of discipline, experience and passion for the sport,

“It makes you feel good,” Ayew told BBC Sport Africa.

“There’s a lot of sacrifices made to continue staying at the top level for all this while.”

Those sacrifices have ranged from rigorous training to lifestyle changes, including dietary adjustments.

Ayew acknowledged the challenges, especially as age demands even greater effort.

“As you’re growing older, you need to train more. It’s even harder to stop yourself from eating certain foods,” he said.

“We Africans, especially, like to eat good food. But at some point, you have to make a lot of sacrifices.”

Ayew has had a distinguished career, playing for top clubs in Europe and representing the Ghana national team (Black Stars) in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cup campaigns.

His longevity in football is a testament to his work ethic, fitness, and experience.

Continuing to play at a high level at 35 is a remarkable achievement, and it highlights his enduring talent and contribution to both club and country.
