Henry Asante Twum, the Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced the new captaincy structure for the Black Stars, with Jordan Ayew at the helm.
Thomas Partey, previously rumored to have declined the deputy captain role, will serve as the first vice-captain, while Mohammed Kudus and Alexander Djiku will take on the roles of second and third vice-captains, respectively.
“It is not about individual aspirations; it is about what we want to do together, and it is about believing on the plan and believing in the vision. The coach has taken a decision to make Jordan Ayew the captain, with Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus and Alexander Djiku, serving as the first, second and third vice captains of the Black Stars. These players are aware of the structure and the order,” he said.
Ayew’s captaincy began successfully, as the team secured back-to-back wins during the March international break, defeating Chad and Madagascar in the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana triumphed over Chad with a score of 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 3-0 victory against Madagascar.
These impressive wins have placed the Black Stars at the top of the standings in Group I, with four games remaining in the qualifiers.
The team will regroup to continue the World Cup qualifying campaign in September 2025.
