Ghana FA Exco member Randy Abbey explains Black Stars AFCON 2023 failure

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey has explained why the Black Stars failed to glitter at the 2033 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars suffered an early AFCON setback after failing to win any of their group games. Ghana drew two and lost one, finishing third in Group B.

Ghana has now failed to make it to the knockout stage of the continental showpiece for the second time running having last suffered early elimination in AFCON 2021 held in Cameroon.

The West Africa powerhouse drew two games at the Nations Cup, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

“Watching the games, I could tell that we had a problem with the deployment of players, the substitution, the timing of the substitution, and the kind of substitution that was made. And then game management,” he said.

The Ghana FA is looking for a new coach after terminating the contract of Irish-Ghanaian coach Chris Hughton last week following a disappointing AFCON, setting Friday, February 2, 2024, as deadline day for submission of applications by coaches.
