Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku to miss AFCON after suffering serious injury
Ghana international defender Nicholas Opoku will miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament slated for Cameroon in January 2022 due to injury.
Opoku, who plies his trade for French Ligue II side Amiens SC has suffered a serious knee injury while on preseason with the side and could miss the AFCON tournament and key 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
According to the club, the enterprising defender will undergo surgery today, July 1. 2021 but he is expected to be out until February 2022 which means he will not be available for the World Cup qualifiers in September and the AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
The towering guardsman was instrumental for the club in the just-ended season featuring 27 times before sustaining an injury against Rodez on April 11.
He was part of the Black Stars squad that played Ivory Coast and Morocco in an international friendly last month.
