Ghana and Crystal Palace receive team boost as striker returns after coronavirus tests

Ghana international Jordan Ayew has returned to training weeks after he tested positive for coronavirus.

The 29-year-old forward tested positive for the virus days after he returned to his club in London following an international game for the Black Stars.

Ayew was among seven Black Stars players confirmed positive for coronavirus upon their return.

Besiktas midfielder Bernard Mensah, Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo, Hoffenheim centre-back Kasim Nuhu Adams and Trabzonspor forward Caleb Ekuban all also tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from the Ghana camp.

All infected players were subjected to self-quarantine for days hoping to recover and begin training with their various clubs.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson made the announcement at a presser for this weekend’s game and further stated that Jordan is in contention for a place in the starting team for the game against Wolves.

The Palace striker’s return to training not only a boost for the club but also for Ghana ahead of November’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying double-header against Sudan.

Ayew is the second of the confirmed Black Star cases to be announced recovered, following Guimaraes left-back Gideon Mensah.
