The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) says it will officially notify the Electoral Commission about the passing of its 2024 Presidential Candidate, Akua Donkor.
In addition, the party will seek guidance from the EC on the necessary steps to replace the presidential candidate on the ballot ahead of the December 7 polls.
The GFP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Kwabre East Constituency, George Bencha, who disclosed this, said Madam Donkor’s death is a significant loss for the party.
However, he was hopeful that the EC would provide clear directives on the way forward in light of this sudden event.
“For now, we are counting on the EC to give us the directives because we are writing officially to it about this particular incident so that they will give us the go-ahead as to how we are going to get a replacement for the flagbearership,” Mr Bencha said.
Party members are in mourning, with red bands displayed at their Ashanti Regional office and on the party’s official vehicle following the news of Madam Donkor’s death.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family of the late Akua Donkor has expressed shock following her sudden demise.

However, this morning, we received another call, and we are in a state of shock.”
The family stressed that her legacy would remain part of the country’s history.
The family head praised Akua Donkor’s zeal and wished she had lived to achieve her dream of becoming president.
